Warning: this perfume is not for all audiences. Still, its audience just loves it. Heeley founder and sole-owner describe Cardinal as "incense enrobed in folds of white linen". It is not your average old, heavy incense, there is a floral sparkle of purity and lightness.
This fragrance is based on notes of frankincense, laudanum, and cistus. The linen gives it lightness and the combination of ambergris, patchouli, and vetiver gives Cardinal an air of rare mysticism. Still, it is Heeley-clean-and-fresh.
James Heeley manages to strip off the solemnity of incense turning it into a place where clean and fresh and colour coincide. If it were a painting, this would be a still life with flowers on a neutral background with a ray of light.
